Checking vehicle brakes

Do your brakes squeak as you come to a stop? Or do you notice a vibration under your foot as you press on the brake? It’s time to get them checked.

Properly functioning brakes are crucial to staying safe on the road. But knowing when to get them checked can be tricky. To make it easier, Japanese Auto Service has put together this list of potential faulty brake warning signs.

  • Squeaking/squealing brakes: many brake pads include a function that once worn down too far will begin to squeak when pressed on to indicate when it’s time for replacing.

  • Slow to respond: if you find that your stopping distance is getting longer and you have to press harder to come to a stop, it’s time for an inspection.

  • Things don’t feel normal: a sinking feeling like you could touch the car floor or vibrations as you press on the brake are reasons for concern. Pay attention to what feels normal when you press the brake so you can recognize any abnormalities.

  • Brake warning light: dashboard warning lights are there for a reason and shouldn’t be ignored.

Most brakes should last 10,000-50,000 miles, but we recommend adding them to your regular car maintenance checklist to stay on top of any problems. When in doubt, play it safe and schedule an inspection with Japanese Auto Service.

Keep your vehicle running smoothly with our tip of the month and let us know how it’s improved your time on the road.
